You don't need to be a creative genius to make birthday cards. Not at all.The ease of picking up cardmaking skill makes it an attractive hobby for many. Perhaps that's why it's becoming a more and more popular craft. With some basic card making ideas and inspiration, you'll be on your way to make your own cards very quickly. Of course, as you become more skilled in cardmaking, you'll be tempted to explore and experiment with more techniques. Meanwhile, to get you started, I'm going to show you how easy it can be to make a pretty-looking birthday card in less than 15 minutes.
Create Birthday Card with Step-by-Step Instructions
1) Buy a box of white card blanks and envelopes. When you get a box set, it's cheaper and time-saving. It saves you time because the card blanks are already pre-cut and pre-scored (a creased line at the center of the card for folding into half). White card blanks are very useful and versatile. You can use them for most card making projects.
2) Select a piece of printed paper to use on your card. Here's I'm using patterned paper from DCWV 6"x6" Floral Pack Stack.
3) Cut the piece of printed paper to your desired size to create birthday card. I've wanted a white border around my 5"x7" card blank, so I cut the printed paper to a smaller size. Next I used double-sided tape to adhere the printed paper to the center of my card blank. You can use other kind of adhesives but I find double-sided tape or refillable tape rollers work better on cards. Because they are non-liquid so they don't wrinkle the paper or create any mess. Well, I tend to eyeball my measurements and cut along. But if you like exact measurements, by all means use your ruler and pencil to do the work. If you have a paper trimmer, that's even better. A cutting mat works great too.
4) I cut out a strip of green card that's about 1.5"x7".
5) Then I adhered the green strip to the middle of my card with double-sided tape. You can make measurements to make sure your green strip is really adhered right in the middle. I eyeballed it.
6) Then I cut out two smaller pieces of colored cards. The white card is slightly smaller than the yellow card. All these colored cards were taken out from my scraps that I didn't throw out. You don't always have to use fresh supplies on each new card. To make a birthday card, you can make full use of your scraps. So don't go throwing away all your scraps, they'll come in useful!
7) Next I wrote out "Happy Birthday" using freehand on the small piece of white card. This is a fun way to create unique birthday greeting text. You can practice different styles of handwriting and come up with something you really like to create birthday card. If you've never done this before, you might want to practice your handwriting on scrap papers first. When you're really comfortable with your handwritten text, then handwrite it on the actual white card. Alternatively, you might like to use a computer font to print out your birthday greeting. In such an instance, select a computer font, type out your birthday greeting, and print it out on a piece of white card. Then you cut out your greeting to the desired size. After I'm done with my handwritten greeting, I matted it with the bigger yellow card.
8) Finally, I adhered the matted greeting text to the center of the middle green strip. Isn't that a quick and simple card idea? You too can make create a birthday card using these steps I've outlined above. Try it!
