I've complied a list of useful card making hints and tips that I believe might enhance your card making experience. I'll add to the list as I come across or happen upon more great tips. So this is an ever-expanding list of tips!
If you have a card making tip that'll make someone else happy, do share it with us! I'd love to hear from you and add your tip to the collection.
1) Recycle your commercial cards that you received from family and friends. Cut out embellishments, pictures or even word sentiments to use on your cards.
2) Save some time and money by using value pack of pre-cut and pre-scored card blanks.
3) To remove sticky/glue residue on scissors, use a soft eraser to rub out the residue.
4) Wonder what you could do with extra gift wrappers? Use them as "patterned papers" for your card making.
5) Like the look of a certain rubber stamp but don't want to invest in one or won't be using it much? Doodle your own version.
6) If you have a mini punch, you can punch out a row of punch-outs along the edges of your card blank, creating an interesting border.
7) When setting things like eyelets or brads through cards, do add an insert to the card to cover up the holes at the back. An insert gives a professional finish.
8) To add a card insert, a great way to do it is by using thin double-sided tape or glue dispenser and applying it close to the card fold. This will ensure that the leaf will open together with the card allowing the recipient to read the message readily.
9) When making cards with embellishments that run over the edges of the cards, make sure that these cards can still fit in smoothly into the envelopes.
10) Craft knife is easier to use than scissors when trimming intricate designs.
11) To add definition to your card edges or paper edges, rub them against an ink pad.
12) To make an element or die-cut "pop" from the background, use a fine-liner pen to add dashes or dots.
13) Not everyone has the budget for a die-cutting machine, but there's always the cheaper options - either use punches to punch out the shapes or to cut out the shapes yourself with a craft knife.
14) To glue down gems/rhinestones, use liquid glue/PVA that comes with a fine nozzle for ease of getting them into place accurately.
15) Move your elements around your card to achieve the best positioning before sticking them down.
